Founded in 1897, during this 2009/2010 season Buntingford Town FC will again have 2 senior teams in the Herts Senior County League. We also run an over-35s Veterans’ side which plays friendly matches on Sunday mornings, and this season the team has also entered the Herts FA Veteran's Cup for the first time.
We believe that Buntingford should offer the opportunity for our members to play at the highest level possible; because of this, the club re-joined the Herts County League at the start of the 2002/2003 season after an absence of over 20 years.
The club is committed to giving our players the best possible coaching, facilities and support; this season we will again be training at Hitchin Town's Norton Road facility in Baldock.
In recent years the First Team has enjoyed much success by winning the Herts Intermediate Cup and County League First Division title in 2005. In 2006 the First Team were runners-up in the Aubrey Cup, winners of the Herts Floodlit Cup and finished a creditable fourth in their first season in the County League Premier Division.
In 2007 they were crowned champions of the Herts County League Premier Division, only to have the title cruelly snatched from them due to an unfortunate mistake resulting in an ineligible player claim by the County League and the FA.
The Reserves were promoted from the County League Second Division in 2005 and finished fourth in their first season in the Reserve First Division. They improved on that position by finishing third in 2007 and they also were runners-up in the County League Reserve Cup, being beaten 5-4 by Evergreen after extra time in a thrilling final.
In the 2005/06 season the U18 squad won the Ridgeons League Divisional Championship and the League Cup. They also experienced an amazing FA Youth Cup run which ended at Griffin Park where they were eliminated in the Second Round Proper by Brentford.
In 2005 and 2006 the Youth section had a successful summer tour of Denmark, returning with the Dana Cup in 2006 after beating teams from all over the world. In those two years they were also crowned Divisional Champions of their league in the competitive Ridgeons Midweek Youth League.
During the 2007/08 season the U18s won 5 trophies.
Whilst we have had success with our Youth section over recent years, regretably, due to lack of resources, we have since been forced to drop youth football.
Last season both of our County League teams were relegated having finished third from bottom in each of their respective divisions, hardly surprising considering the managerial disruptions we experienced over the previous two seasons.
During this 2009/10 season the club's intention is to build again with a view to achieving promotion; however, there is no rush, and we would rather have a stable and happy club than one that wins at all costs. It may take a long time to get back to where we want to be, but it will happen, and when it does it will be down to hard work, commitment, and teamwork throughout the club.
