Match Report for 13/08/05
1st Team v Ware FC Buntingford Won 1-0
A week before their competitive season, and after some mixed pre-season friendly performances, Paul Attfield’s Buntingford put in a good solid performance against Ryman Division Two outfit Ware FC. Town had their first chance as early as the first minute but Harry Harste could only manage to mis-kick a golden opportunity. The visitors response was swift and two good chances went begging as firstly Louie Evans shot inches wide before Alistair Waldron saw a goalbound low effort well saved by Damian Williamson. The game then evened out with both teams creating a few chances. Town’s Mark Babbage created a good opportunity when he cut the ball back to the edge of the six yard box but Ware managed to scramble the ball away. Ware’s Evans then saw a lobbed shot go over the bar. The impressive Evans then cut the ball back for Andy Crawford but the host's guardian Williamson did well to foil the chance. Mark Babbage then had a goal amazingly disallowed when he intercepted a back pass from Ware’s full back; Babbage slotted home but the officials inexplicably disallowed the goal for offside. With the match at 0-0 at half time most of the crowd felt that was a fair reflection on the first half. Ware introduced Henry Haastrup after the interval and he soon created problems for the home side. He should have scored on 65 minutes, but unmarked he headed wide from 6 yards. The same player then produced a great save from Williamson with a shot from a tight angle. The visitors with twenty minutes to go seemed to remember that they were facing opposition three steps below them in the FA pyramid and pushed hard for a goal, but this gave Town the opportunity to use width and pace which created some chances. One of Buntingford's opportunities saw the determined Harste force a corner when in a one v one with Ware’s keeper. From the corner Lee Ridings found the ball fall to him from Ware’s half clearance and the experienced midfielder fired low into the corner of the net to win the game in the last minute.
